Easy Strawberry Banana Shortcake

Dessert Shortcut!

1 to 2 lb. fresh or frozen strawberries (chopped, sliced or mashed)
*1 pkg. Bisquick complete (baked according to directions) OR
1 store bought pound cake or angel food cake (sliced)
Cool Whip, Reddi Wip or fresh whipped cream (Personally I like REAL WHIPPED CREAM)
1/2 cup orange juice
1 or 2 sliced bananas

I like to make the biscuits as a nice touch for shortcake.  Mom always made fresh biscuits for our shortcake and would slice and butter them while warm and then add the fresh strawberries and cream.  It is one of many food memories I have of her BUT

I have found that Bisquick has a small package of biscuit mix (7.5oz) in the baking section of the grocery store and all you need to add to it is water, mix and drop by spoonfuls and bake for 10 to 15 minutes.(makes about 4 nice size biscuits).  It is a quick way to add some interest to your shortcake.  Your family will think you spent all day baking! NOT!!

If your time is limited buy a store bought cake, slice in 1/2 slices add sugared sliced strawberries and bananas.  You can easily defrost a package of frozen strawberries and add the bananas to them.  Note: If using fresh strawberries (I add a bit of orange juice and a few tsp. of sugar to give fresh strawberries/bananas a bit more liquid). Cool Whip or Reddi Wip to top it and a Yummy easy dessert!
