Walnut Scones

New Recipe!

The below recipe looks very interesting so give it a whirl and try it.  I have yet to give it my kitchen tested seal of approval.

Happy Baking!

3 cups all purpose flour
1/3 cup sugar
1/2 tsp. baking soda
2 1/2 tsp. baking powder
3/4 tsp. kosher salt
3/4 cup unsalted butter ( 1 1/2 sticks)cut into pieces
3/4 cup coarsely chopped walnuts
3/4 cup buttermilk
1 tsp. vanilla
1/4 cup heavy cream

Preheat oven to 425 degrees. In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, baking powder and salt.

With clean hands, work the butter into the dry mixture until it has the consistency of fine bread crumbs.  Stir in walnuts. or for a change you can add chocolate chips or crushed peppermint candy,

Make a well in the center of the dry ingredients and pour in the buttermilk and vanilla.  Combine the ingredients just until dry mixture is wet.  Mixture will look lumpy.

Turn the dough onto a floured surface.
Gather it together and gently pat the dough into a disc about 1 1/2 inches thick.  Using a 3 1/2 cookie cutter cut out scones and lay them on parchment or non stick baking sheet.

Brush the top liberally with heavy cream.  Bake the scones approx. 12 minutes or until lightly browned.
